Henny Penny,Funky Chick

An old rhyme from my childhood says:
Henny Penny, my black hen
She lays eggs, for the railroad men
Sometimes nine, sometimes ten
Henny Penny, my black hen

Today, Henny Penny is a funky chick and a delightful paint project.
Look for her in Bev Johnston and Pam Tyriver's Starlight Series. We will take a break from the funky chicks and do Christmas themed projects for the next two weeks.

Funky Rooster

A very colorful little rooster that is crowing his morning song. We painted him on a 4"x4" canvas and he is a delight to paint. Every thing is mostly worked in with a round brush and the detail work is done with a small liner. The project will look better if you do a small thin outline about 1/4 inch in from the edge of the canvas (see the Funky Chicks below). Do this line with thinned paint and don't try to make it straight, just try to keep the line the same width from the edge. The project can also be painted on tile or glass. He is from Sandra McLean's Chicken Pot Pie Collection. This little guy is more fun when you paint him the second and third time.

Funky Chick Red

We did the Funky Yellow Chick in today's classes. That picture is shown on a previous post. This red one is just a little different and it's being posted because some of you are going to paint it. Remember to keep the squares from touching if you are free-handing the design and to do them at a slight angle. You could also give it yellow dots or circles, use you creativity. Remember, thin lines come with thin paint and hold that brush straight up. The afternoon class today was filled with laughter. Thank you, Peggy.

Chicken Flock

We managed to do a whole flock of chickens today. These work up so quick and easy and there are so many things to do with them. Paint them individually or pair them up and put them on cards, boxes, a shirt, etc., you get the idea. Two good friends, Bev Johnston and Pam Tyriver have fabulous creative ideas and they are published in their Starlight Series, look for them where you buy decorative painting supplies. We'll do more funky chickens next week. Check back.
